ADVENTURES IN HUMBOLDT! ( PAGE 2 OF 2! )
My parents experienced part of their college years up in Humboldt, so when my friend Pam invited me to come with her to attend a wedding, I was already halfway out the door! While up there, I took 500+ photos; here's the best of the bunch.

PART 4: EXPLORING
Though Pam and I were officially there for the wedding, there was still much to see in the small time we were in the area! Wherever the car lead us through Fortuna, Eureka and Arcata was where we would end up.

Headin' around Fortuna, lookin' for a place for breakfast the
day of the wedding. My dad apparently remembers the
creamery shown, and knew it was Fortuna when he saw the
lumberfilled truck.
We passed by this place, the Redwood Cafe, but hoped there was better. We wasted time trying to find elsewhere, because this was where we'd end up 40 minutes later! And it was so worth it, I gave a five star review at Yelp.com!
Pam and me, eatin' breakfast. Mind you, this is only 45 minutes or so until we were at the wedding!
Our view from the Redwood Cafe. The Fortuna Theatre was playing No Country for Old Men, which was not my choice for Best Picture but would still win later that month.
Now, we really get to go exploring, as these pics are from the day after the wedding. Even their freeway has solar powered objects! I think the rest of the country should take notice.
Line of trees. Fascinating.
Great Chinese Food! A rainbow! Earlier that week, I'd seen about three rainbows back home... I guess it was meant to be, although I hear it rains quite a bit up there.
Now we're in Arcata. This is either horns or the tail of a whale, I'm guessing...

Interesting businesses in the town square there... Thule is
remembered by my dad for sure, though that lovely Mac store
sure didn't exist when he and Mom were there... The stores were
all closed that day, though, because it was Sunday! Come on!
They may have opened in later hours, perhaps, but it was at least
10 or 11 o'clock when we got there.
Good, Arcata has a theatre, too... But wait, it's CLOSED!! WTF? Maybe it's under construction...? New ownership?? Closing theatres upsets Garett, see.
Palms and pines in Arcata, still in the town square.
Pam and McKinley, also in the square.
Now we've ventured out of Arcata and headed toward Eureka. Dunno where this was precisely, but a flock of birds was above it.
Pam and I saw a billboard advertising the Samoa Cookhouse, and decided to try it. It was interesting for sure, and the food good enough. (Another Yelp.com review! You can tell I'm pushing for their site, no?) It's more about the experience than the food, though, particularly since the food they advertise was wiped clean for a "specials" day... The cook got board, I'm guessing.

These could be seen from the parking lot, so we headed in that
direction. That lead us to...

...this! The house in the center shows where the Coastguard stays.
That house would be nice anywhere, I'd say.
Alright, time to head back. This little dinky overpass that leads out of Samoa actually counts as an entire freeway!
Awesome clouds that day. And little rain, too!
Birds are heading home... So are we...
Goodbye Super 8!

PART 5: AVENUE OF THE GIANTS
You have never seen magnificent redwoods until you have ventured onto this amazing scenic road that parallels the freeway for roughly an hour. Stunning -- even more so when you don't have to pay attention to the road itself!

Goin' o'er a river again. These green bridges were really spectacular... Imagine having to get used to them... I'm practically used to the seeing the Golden Gate in pictures, but not in person.
The mountainside in sunlight.

Just before finding the turnoff for the Avenue of the Giants, we
passed through a blanket of fog that made for some of the most
fantastical views I'd ever captured on film. Reminds me of what
Ansel Adams saw in Yosemite. Remembering it was all real...
Amazing.
Got a map of the place.

Can do nothing more than absorb the senses from the magnanimous
sights, scents and sounds provided except grin.
Line of trees. Hrm, I like this one better than the freewayside version above. :-)
Another bridge!

Colors... Bursts... Flares... The trees have it all.
Our route bordered this river. I'll bet it looked so muddy because of the rain season; normally, it's probably much clearer.
It was nearly impossible to get a nonblurry shot of this river!! The one at left is the only one, but there were countless out of focus. I must return, there's so much to see up here!
Perfect place to do so. That concludes this excellent trip.
