ADVENTURES IN HUMBOLDT! ( PAGE 1 OF 2! )
My parents experienced part of their college years up in Humboldt, so when my friend Pam invited me to come with her to attend a wedding, I was already halfway out the door! While up there, I took 500+ photos; here's the best of the bunch.

PART 1: ENROUTE
Heading north!

Can't head north without crossing the Golden Gate! The closer thumbnail links to the only AVI movie taken during the whole trip.
Early on, Pam and I passed by this ginormous moss covered rocky hillside that I think even bordered a river! Nothing in the bay area is like that... But it's so close by!
There were at least a few "drive through cities" along the route, and one included this rather interesting "jail motel".
Haven't you always wanted to live in a dome?
The Skunk Train! My family went on that in, like, the 4th grade! Before heading to Humboldt, that was the furthest north I'd been.
Ha! I know someone who will LOVE this shot.
Great Chinese Food! Of all names a restaurant could have...
Now we're finally in tree country. This roadside place had all sorts of carvings, even one of Shrek!
Snow! Rarely see that at home, if ever.
Bridges started to become more frequent up this way, for sure.
I think this place was called Confusion Hill, but we didn't get out of the car. It was interesting enough from the window!
I don't quite remember why I took this pic... Maybe we were worried of a detour?

Low clouds make for majestic views!
A bigger bridge, though unused, perhaps abandoned or under construction... Our car was on a different bridge when this was taken.

A bigger river, most likely the Eel River. Alongside the first of
thesethree pics, I believe, is the Avenue of the Giants, which
deserves its own section on Page 2 of this GPicturama entry!
We reach our destination in Fortuna the night before the wedding.

PART 2: WEDDING
It's what we went up for! For some reason, I couldn't upload any pics to their wedding site, so I hope they will one day see these! At least I wasn't responsible for photographing anything officially, but I took so many more...

We had about half an hour for the both of us to get ready in the motel after searching for a breakfast location, so here's me after putting my tie on in the car.
It was cold that day for sure, so we still wore our coats inside!
Boy, I know what your responsibilities are... :-)
Pastor and Groom.
Mother is walked in.
Cute little ring bearer. There was a flower girl, too, but she was having a fit, and the only "decent" pic I got was of her glaring at my camera! I wisely chose not to include it here.
Father of the Bride.
Bridesmaids.
Groomsmen.
Aww, so sweet. The bridesmaid shown gave a heartfelt speech, and was a sister to the bride.
Hold hands, please.
You may now kiss the bride!
I liked what they organized for the aisle, where people would hold up flowers to walk under as they passed each row. Creative and romantic.
Some people throw rice... Here, we
blew bubbles! Still made for nice pics.
Dunno who this was, but it looks like it's from a magazine.
Dance romantically. Gee, they look happy!
Just married.

PART 3: HUMBOLDT STATE
Ah, so this is my parents' college...

This specifically isn't Humboldt State, but
it was driven by on the way there. It's College of the Redwoods.
Here we go.
With these all over the campus, I'd say this is a college of the redwoods, too.
Whoa, they have a "green house." More people should do that these days!
They had some pretty big stuff. This specifically was called their Jolly Giant, and probably included a section for food (can't be jolly without food!).

This is just awesome. Living among redwoods, in reddish buildings.
So long as I wasn't among the reported pothead community, I'd be
having a ball. Oh yeah, and no classes... I suppose that's a big
throw off!
I think people lived here, too, but I saw a sign somewhere that indicated only faculty. Maybe that applied to this building?
This road leads out! (Although we went out, so now we're facing in... Oh, bother...)

ONWARD HO TO PAGE 2!
